The Faculty Council is directed by the Constitution of the College of Engineering [PDF] to participate in shared-governance activities with the mission to represent the faculty in all matters of faculty concern.
Specific Duties
- Advise the Dean on the formulation and execution of College policies.
- Initiate, discuss, evaluate, and recommend short and long range plans for the College
- Offer recommendations on matters of concern to the College Faculty before final action is taken at College Faculty Meetings.
- Act on behalf of the Faculty on those matters of faculty concern for which the Faculty has delegated to the Faculty Council the specific authority to act.
- Consult with the Dean on the process for selection and appointment of department chairs to insure that the opinions and recommendations of the departmental faculty are taken into consideration.
- Deploy a structured procedure by which the College Faculty can provide the Dean with feedback on the performance of Associate Deans, Department Chairs, and other appropriate College officers.
- Deploy a structured procedure by which the College Faculty can provide the provost with feedback on the performance of the Dean.
- Carry out an annual evaluation the structure and functioning of shared governance in the college, and draft a report outlining any areas needing improvement.
- Coordinate elections to replace members of the University Senate, the College Tenure and Promotion Committee, and the Honors and Awards Committee whose terms are expiring. Solicit nominations, including self-nominations, for all open positions
- Provide a recommendation to the President and Provost on the appointment of the dean of the college
Membership
- All the College of Engineering representatives to the Faculty Senate of the University of Florida, except those Senators whose titles contain the words President, Provost, Dean, and/or Chair.
- One ex-officio non-voting member appointed by the Dean.
